Beautiful, Natural-looking Restorations

Porcelain Crowns Wilmington

Middle aged man smiling in living roomA dental crown is a restoration that protects or replaces a natural tooth that has been compromised by decay or trauma. At Smile Solutions by Emmi Dental Associates, we offer porcelain crowns that are not only durable, but also restore the appearance of the smile. Porcelain crowns are custom-designed at our Wilmington office to blend with the color, shape, and size of adjacent natural teeth. If you have a tooth compromised by decay, contact Emmi Dental Associates today to learn more about your treatment options.

Why Choose a Porcelain Crown?

Porcelain is a remarkable material that mimics the look of natural tooth enamel. In addition to porcelain, crowns have traditionally been crafted from metal or porcelain fused to metal. While metal restorations are a great option for posterior (back) teeth, they can look unattractive next to natural teeth. Porcelain is a durable and beautiful option that many patients find is worth a slightly higher cost.

Dr. Jeffrey Emmi works closely with each patient to design a crown that matches his or her natural teeth in size, shape, and color. Naturally translucent porcelain can be matched to the exact shade of a patient's natural teeth. Dr. Emmi works closely with our dental laboratory to ensure that porcelain crowns are crafted to blend with each patient's unique smile.

To prepare a natural tooth for a crown, Dr. Emmi first removes any and all decay from the tooth. This can sometimes involve a root canal. If the tooth has suffered trauma, damaged portions will be removed to create a proper seat for your dental crown. Dr. Emmi takes impressions of the patient's gums, the treated tooth, and surrounding teeth. If you are using a crown to restore a dental implant, we will take an impression of the implant post and surrounding teeth. These impressions are sent to an offsite laboratory, where technicians will carefully craft your custom crowns from specially selected porcelain. In the meantime, we will provide temporary crowns to maintain the comfort and functionality of your smile. In about two weeks, you restoration will be completed, and you can return to our office to have it placed. Once it is bonded in place, the crown acts like a shield over the natural tooth, preventing it from further damage. Meanwhile, the crown restores chewing ability, balance between the jaws, and a natural appearance in your smile.

Customized Care for Your Smile
