Full Mouth Reconstruction

What is full mouth reconstruction?

  • A complex procedure to restore all or most of your teeth
  • A process to fix multiple broken teeth due to a poor bite or missing teeth
  • A multidisciplinary approach to correcting many dental problems in the mouth

When a patient has multiple dental problems that have been developing over many years, many dental treatments may be needed to correct the multiple problems. I may need to extract teeth, do root canals on teeth, do crowns or implants or bridges. I may also have to restore your mouth to a more normal opening which is called vertical dimension.

All these treatments must be coordinated in the proper order to ensure the best opportunity for success. The most important aspect of a full mouth treatment is to know the vision of what the end result will look like then to work to achieve it. Many things go into a successful outcome.

I like to have the patient completely aware of all the risks and benefits of each aspect and let them choose what suits them the best. Many times, I may need foundational work done by another dental specialist, a Periodontist or an Oral surgeon.

As you can imagine, this is not a procedure to enter into lightly and the skill level of the treating dentist is very important. Ask the dentist how many times that they have done this before and what you will need to do to maintain your mouth after treatment.
